In 1984 Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis and Ivan Reitman gave us the classic Ghostbusters. The film is a fun blend of special effects and comedy.
32 years later we have a remake. I was bit skeptical of the remake. I’m glad to say it’s not horrible but it’s not a classic either.
Following the same routine as the original with hiring comedians as the ghostbusters, the cast does a good job. But Kate McKinnon steals the show as Jillian Holtzmann. The cameos are great. Seeing the original cast members is one of the high points. Even the late Harold Ramis makes an appearance.
My only issue with the cast is the chemistry isn’t as strong as the original. My other problem is Chris Hemsworth. His scenes just weren’t funny. If anything they were very corny.
The script is very 50/50. Really the main issue is the script tries too hard to be funny. Except for a few scenes the movie isn’t really that funny. At least you get some decent action sequences. Some do stick out more than others. The best action sequence is when Holtzmann kicks ass in the finale. I’m telling she steals the film.
