Eidos Montreal and Square Enix returns with a new installment of the cyberpunk game franchise Deus Ex. Mankind Divided takes place two years after the events of Human Evolution. Let me start off by saying that I loved Human Evolution. It was an awesome mix of stealth and action with an epic story line. While I’m happy to say Mankind Divided is a worthy sequel, it does have some short comings.
The game looks gorgeous, from the slums of Prague to London. It’s the little things that make it stand out. Like birds eating on the street corner, the sunset and other little things that add life to this world. Once in a while, you might have some frame rate issues but nothing too bad.
What makes Mankind Divided shine over its predecessor is the gameplay. It has the same style of choosing your own gameplay. You could go guns blazing or sneak your way in without killing anyone. It’s all up too you. The biggest change and what makes the gameplay great are all the new augmentations. They have everything from jump/rush that you could use to climb up buildings and find secret areas to explosive blades. Towards the end of the game you are the ultimate augmented bad ass. The only issue I had with the gameplay is the controls. It took some time to get use too. But once I did, I was kicking some augmented ass.
My biggest complaint is the story. While not as bad as some other games, I’m looking at you Resident Evil 6, the story just feels to small and not as epic as Human Evolution. Actually when I think about it feels like a longer DLC. There is a terrorist attack at a train station. You’re job is to find out who did it and why. That’s it, no major twist. Except for the secret ending during the credits.
Overall it’s still a great game, even with its short comings. If you are a fan of the previous installments, you definitely have to try it out.
