M. Night Shyamalan love him or hate him. He has done some good films. Sixth Sense while it was predictable had some great parts. But for every Sixth Sense, we get The Last Airbender or Lady in the Water.
The Visit is M. Night’s latest film. It’s a story about grandchildren visiting their grandparents for the first time. The grandparents seem normal but are they?
While the premise seemed promising, the overall film is disappointing. It’s definitely not his worst but it’s not that good either. The film is a another found footage. Which isn’t a bad thing but some of the scenes look more like a traditional film and less like a found footage. It just pulls you away from the story. You catch yourself wondering how did they get such a cinematic scene. There are maybe two creepy scenes but for horror film that’s nothing. Another thing, what’s up with all these horror movies that aren’t scary? Is it a new trend? What happened? Shit I’m getting off track. That will be an article for another day. Going back to The Visit.
The main problem with this film is M. Night. Not saying he is a horrible filmmaker but just a bad director. It shows with this film. As a screenwriter he shines. Look at Devil which M. Night wrote. It was very good, much better than The Visit. The overall acting was ok. I just thought the grandson was annoying. Now you are thinking it’s an M. Night film, does it have a surprise ending? Yes. Is it any good ? No. It’s just not much of a shocker or surprise. I will say this about the film at least it’s better then The Last Airbender and Lady in the Water.
